Hello and thanks for visiting! This is Chris and Gina Anders, founders and owners of OberGood™ artisan goat cheese. We started OberGood™ out of a desire to marry our own shared passion for fine cheese with our long-standing pride in our family-run dairy goat farm. Here’s our story . . .

It all started in 1978 when Chris’ parents discovered that their young son was lactose-intolerant – cow’s milk made him sick. Chris was a . . . shall we say . . . “spirited” child, and his parents really didn’t want to add yet another issue to the list of vexations they experienced on a daily basis from their only son. So what were they to do? They decided to invest in some goats. Yes, goats. Why, you ask? Well, the goats, they reasoned, would not only provide a constant supply of milk that Chris could safely drink, but also – and perhaps even more importantly – would create an outlet for their son’s enormous energy. Chris was thus kept occupied in the feeding, milking, breeding, and showing of goats during his formative years.

Over the years, the Anders family became quite fond of their goats and continued to breed and increase the number and quality of their herd. Today, Blue Ridge Dairy Farm is home to many grand-champion Oberhasli goats and produces thousands of pounds per week of their uniquely rich and sweet milk.

In late 2008, Chris met Gina who had never set foot on a farm in her life – some would say she was a “city girl.” She was well-educated, well-traveled, and lived a comfortable, if slightly sheltered, life in the suburbs of Washington, DC. Trips to Italy, France, and other food-rich adventures instilled in her a great appreciation of fine foods and wine. She was and still is the perfect compliment to Chris, as she is the driving force to bring OberGood™ artisan goat cheese to market. Chris and Gina thus embarked on a quest to turn their shared passion for locally crafted cheese into a shared livelihood.

In 2011, Chris invited his sister, Kathleen Musser, to help with the ongoing process of developing the OberGood™ company’s vision. Kathleen has helped with the many chores and activities of the family farm as well as being part of managing and packaging of products for OberGood™. Now she will continue her efforts in all of these as well as step-in as operation’s manager for OberGood™. With a single mindset, we at OberGood™ endeavor to provide our customers’ with the highest quality of artisan cheese, emphasize the fresh qualities of a from the farm product, and promote the unique Oberhasli breed which was once listed as threatened on the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy conservation list.
